Live Tweeting

Tweeting during a press conference would be rude.

Another new concept to me this semester is the idea live of live-tweeting an event. Under most circumstances, I think tweeting at an event can be a great way to connect with other people who share similar interests. Tweeting at events such as sporting events, concerts, parties or any other large social gathering is definitely acceptable. Twitter users can share their experiences and reactions to certain events right as they happen, and also determine how others are feeling about the event as well.  However, I could see where it becomes problematic.

Certain events probably should avoid being tweeted during. For example, tweeting during speeches, press conferences, plays, or intimate shows would be considered rude, in my opinion. I think the events mentioned should demand individual attention for two reasons. One, the speaker or artist deserves your undivided attention, because they probably work hard at their craft. Two, it’s hard to understand or truly experience an event when your face is buried in your phone. These type of events I think should be tweeted about, of course, but the tweets and reactions should probably wait till after the event is done.

Tweeting a live event is not quite as organized as a tweet-chat. Most users don’t look to comment or build on tweets from other users, they simply just express themselves. In tweet-chats the discussion was much more interactive, and users really looked to build or expand on the ideas of other tweeters.
